I know for example that when a German Pilot landed in a tree near his farm he saved the man’s life by calling for the Police, before the locals could get hold of him – i think they had their pitchforks ready

GRACE, MICHAEL JAMES. Sergeant (Bomb Aimer), 1335182. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve. 57 Squadron, Royal Air Force. Died 1 May 1943. Aged 21. Son of Joseph Michael Grace and Emma Frances Grace of Owens Court, Selling, Faversham, Kent. Commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial. Panel 151. After leaving school, Michael was employed by Gould & Son (Ironmongers), 113 West Street, Faversham, Kent. Prior to his military service, Michael was employed at Owens Court Farm, Selling, Faversham, Kent. In 1978 the Royal Netherlands Air Force recovered human remains of two members of the crew of Lancaster ED706. It was not possible to make a positive identification of these men and they are buried in Plot 22, Row F Graves 8-9 of Groesbeek Canadian War Cemetery, Gelderland, Netherlands.
